When I first started marketing online, I read all of the guru stuff about buying banners, advertising, etc. The problem was that I just starting out. I was trying to make money, not give away everything that I had.

Once you’ve learned the basics of search engine optimization, then it’s time to optimize your site for the search engines.

You should optimize for no more than three keyword terms per page.
Once you have your keywords, plug your site into Web CEO. Remember, you are optimizing pages, not your site.
Analyze your site and see what changes you need to make. Once you’ve done that, you can edit and reload or upload your site to the internet.
5. Submit your site to the search engines.
There’s some disagreement on whether or not you should submit your site to the search engines, or whether you should just wait for the search engine spiders to find you.
I stand in the camp that says submit. The reason is that these search engines don’t always update the way they should, and although they claim that they will find your site, they may not.
I know this because I had one site that had never been found by MSN eventhough it was linked to all of my other sites and all of my other sites were fully included in MSN.
There are only five places that I recommend you submit, and you should do this manually. Although Web CEO has a submission tool, it’s better to submit your site manually.

These sites cover most of the internet. Before you submit, there are a few things you should know:
1. Alexa is part of Google search. You will get better results submitting here first. This site also allows you to include a thumbnail of your site. You will also get indexed faster.
2. Read the information on each site for getting included. The best way to learn how to market in any search engine is to read the information offered by the site. You’ll pick up valuable free tips directly from the source.
3. Once you’ve submitted your site, forget about it. Concentrate on building quality content and links to your site.
Once you’ve built a site of around 100 pages, start another one on a topic you are passionate about. Continue adding content to the site or sites you’ve already built. Keep repeating this process, and you’ll achieve success in the search engines: targeted traffic, more sales, and a reputation for providing quality content.

Webmasters today spend quite some time optimizing their websites for search engines. Books have been written about search engine optimization and some sort of industry has developed to offer search engine optimization services to potential clients. But where did this all start? How did we end up with the SEO world we live in today (from a webmaster standpoint seen)?
A guy named Alan Emtage, a student at the University of McGill, developed the first search engine for the Internet in 1990. About a year later, Gopher, an alternative search engine to Archie, was developed at the University of Minnesota. These two kinda search engines triggered the birth of what we use as search engines today.
In 1993, Matthew Gray developed very first search engine robot – the World Wide Web Wanderer. However, it took until 1994 that search engines as we know them today were born. Lycos, Yahoo! And Galaxy were started and as you probably – two of those are still around today (2005).
In 1994 some companies started experimenting with the concept of search engine optimization. The emphasis was put solely on the submission process at that time. Within 12 months, the first automated submission software packages were released. Of course it did not take long until the concept of spamming search engines was ‘invented’. Some webmasters quickly realized that they could swamp and manipulate search results pages by over-submission of their sites. However – the search engines soon fought back and changed things to prevent this from happen.
Soon, search engine optimizers and the search engines started playing some sort of a “cat and mouse” game. Once a way to manipulate a search engine was discovered by the SE-optimizers they took advantage of this. The search engines subsequently revised and enhanced their ranking algorithms to respond to these strategies. It was clear very soon that mainly a small group of webmasters was abusing the search engine algorithms to gain advantage over the competition. Black Hat search engine optimization was born. The unethical way of manipulating search engine resulted in faster responses from search engines. Search engines are trying to keep the search results clean of SPAM to provide the best service to customers.
The search engine industry quickly realized that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as an industry would not go away, and in order to maintain useful indexes, they would need to at least accept the industry. Search engines now partially work with the SEO industry but are still very eager to sort out SPAMMERS that are trying to manipulate the results.
When Google.com started to be the search engine of choice for more than 50% of the Internet users it was highly visible to anyone in the industry that search engine spamming had reached a new dimension. Google.com was so much more important to the success of a website that many webmasters solely concentrated on optimizing their sites for Google only as the payoff was worth the efforts. Again – Black Hat SEO took place, pushing down the honest webmaster and their sites in search results delivered. Google started fighting back. Several major updates to Google’s algorithms forced all webmaster to adapt to new strategies. Black Hat SE-optimizers but suddenly saw something different happening. Instead of just being pushed down in the search results their websites were suddenly completely removed from the search index.
And then there was something called the “Google Sandbox” to show up in discussions. Websites either disappeared into the sandbox or new websites never made it into the index and were considered in the Google Sandbox. The sandbox seemed to be the place where Google would ‘park’ websites either considered SPAMMY or not to be conform with Google’s policies (duplicate websites under different domain names, etc.). The Google Sandbox so far has not been confirmed or denied by Google and many webmasters consider it to be myth.
In late 2004 Google announced to have 8 billion pages/sites in the search index. The gap between Google and the next two competitors (MSN and Yahoo!) seemed to grow. However – in 2005 MSN as well as Yahoo! Started fighting back putting life back into the search engine war. MSN and Yahoo seemed to gain ground in delivering better and cleaner results compared to Google. In July of 2005 Yahoo! Announced to have over 20 billion pages/sites in the search index – leaving Google far behind. No one search engine has won the war yet. The three major search engines however are eagerly fighting for market share and one mistake could change the fortune of a search engine. It will be a rocky ride – but worth watching from the sidelines.

also the most lucrative type for the affiliates. In this type of
affiliate program, the merchant only pays the affiliate whenever
his referral translates into an action—that is whenever the visitor
he has referred actually buys something from the merchant’s site or
when the visitor becomes a lead. This means a lot of savings for
the merchant. On the other hand, it becomes the most lucrative type
for the dedicated affiliate, for commissions in PPP affiliate
marketing usually comes in the range of 15% to 20% of the actual
product sales.
Pay-per-performance affiliate marketing can be further classified
into two popular types: pay-per-sales (PPS) and pay-per-lead (PPL).
-Pay Per Sale (PPS)
In a pay-per-sale type of affiliate marketing, the merchants pay
the affiliate a certain fee whenever the visitor he has referred
to the merchant’s site actually buys something from the merchant’s
site. Affiliates are often paid on commission basis, although other
merchants would opt to pay a fixed fee. But no matter what the
basis of the fee is, it is generally higher than the fee paid to
affiliates in a pay-per-click affiliate program.
-Pay Per Lead (PPL)
The pay-per-lead type of affiliate marketing is a slight variation
of the PPS type and is often used by insurance and finance companies
and other companies who rely on leads for their company to grow.
In this type of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid whenever
the visitor he referred to the merchant’s site fills up an application
form or any similar form related to the business of the company.
Compensation for this type of affiliate marketing is based on a fixed
fee whose rates approximate that of the fixed fee in the PPS type.
Aside from these three specific types of affiliate marketing, a lot
of other affiliate marketing types exist. If the classification is
based on the depth of the affiliate network, it can be classified as
single-tier, two-tier, and multi-tier affiliate marketing. There is
also another type of affiliate marketing that pays the affiliate each
time the customer he has referred purchases something from the
merchant’s site.
-Single-Tier, Two-Tier, and Multi-Tier Affiliate Marketing
These types of affiliate marketing are based on the different levels
or tiers in the affiliate network by which payments are made. In a
single-tier affiliate marketing program, the affiliates are only paid
based on the direct sales or traffic he has referred to the merchant.
All the previously mentioned affiliate marketing types (i.e. PPS< PPL,
and PPC) fall under the single-tier classification.
-In two-tier affiliate marketing programs, the affiliate is not only
paid for the direct traffic or sales that he refers to the merchant’s
site, but also on every traffic or sales referred by various other
affiliates who joined the affiliate program through his recommendation.
Multi-tier affiliate marketing works the same way, although the
affiliate gets additional commission for a wider number of affiliates
in different tiers in the affiliate network.
-Residual Income Affiliate Marketing
In residual income affiliate marketing, the affiliate gets paid not
only once for every customer he has referred to the merchant’s site.
Rather, the affiliate is also paid whenever the customer he has
referred returns to the site and purchase another product. Compensation
for such type of affiliate marketing is based on either sales
percentage commission or fixed fee basis.
The different affiliate marketing types would virtually work
differently for merchants and affiliates alike, and each would
generally have their own list of benefits. Which type of affiliate
marketing will work best for you? It is not really for me to tell.

How Your Google Adwords Quality Score Can Reduce The Amount You Pay Per Click
How does Google calculate the actual cost you pay per click on Google Adwords? An explanation of what a Google Quality Score is, and why having a big one can reduce the amount you pay per click with Google Adwords.
Google Adwords is an auction based Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising system where you as a PPC advertiser set the maximum amount you are willing to pay for each click you receive from your advertisement placed with Google.
As an Adwords advertiser you compete in a real-time auction every time a keyword prompts your ad. Adwords is a ‘Vickery’ type auction. In a Vickery auction once a winner has been decided, the actual price paid is not the maximum amount bid, it is one penny more than the bid of the second highest bidder. Google Adwords adds a twist to this, as winning bidders are determined by Ad Rank not by maximum bid.
An understanding of the way that Google Adwords ranks PPC bidders to determine who has won each of the real-time auctions is essential to establishing a coherent and profitable strategy when taking part in the Google Adwords PPC Programme.
The Google Adwords Quality Score
The Google Adwords system for determining who wins the PPC auction is based upon the belief that high quality advert creatives benefit all parties involved. When the ads that Google displays match the needs of searchers the assertion is that this benefits advertisers, searchers, publishers and Google alike. They call this ‘relevancy’.
Given that the winning bidder gets the highest position and the highest position gets the most clicks, the goal for you as a Google advertiser is to get the highest position for your ad at the lowest possible cost per click (CPC).
Every time a search is triggered and an auction has taken place, Google ranks the resultant ads by ‘Ad Rank’. The position of each ad is based upon its ‘Ad Rank’
Ad Rank = ‘Maximum Cost Per Click’ x ‘Quality Score’
Since the ‘Ad Rank’ is not just the maximum amount that an advertiser has bid the highest bidder does not always win. The winning bid is based upon an additional set of elements, which together make up the Google Quality Score.
The Quality Score is the basis upon which Google measures the relevancy of your ad to users and has a major effect in deciding how much you actually pay per click. This means that to compete efficiently an Adwords advertiser must be aware of what they have to do to achieve a high Google quality score.
Exactly how Google calculates the Quality Score is unknown to us and is a closely guarded trade secret.
Google do tell us however that Quality Score is determined by a keyword’s clickthrough rate (CTR), the historical performance of that keyword, the relevance of text in the ad, and other relevancy factors including the landing page of the target url.
The Google Quality Score & Cost Per Click (CPC)
Naturally the higher an ad’s Quality Score, the more relevant it is for the keywords to which it is tied. When ads are highly relevant to the searcher they tend to earn more clicks and therefore achieve a higher clickthrough rate (CTR). This conveys to Google that users like what they see and are finding the ad relevant and clicking on it to find out more. A higher CTR will increase a keyword’s Quality Score which in turn increases the Ad Rank. As a PPC advertiser this means that you can maintain or increase your position whilst lowering the actual cost per click that you pay.
Furthermore Google stops displaying ads for keywords that have a low Quality Score. If an ad has a low Quality Score on a certain keyword it means that users are not finding that ad relevant to their needs and Google will disable the keyword by making it inactive.
A Practical Example Of How The Google Quality Score Works
The PPC bidding system inside Google Adwords is a complicated one because we can never fully be sure of the Quality Score of competitive bids.
Making assumptions about the Google Quality Score, here is an example of how the Google Adwords system would decide who wins an auction and how much they would pay per click.
I’ve used 5 PPC bidders to display how it works but in reality there will be many more bidders involved in each PPC auction.
The row titled ‘Actual CPC’ below shows how much each Adwords bidder would pay for their click following that particular auction.

To calculate how much each PPC bidder pays, Google first calculates the Ad Rank for each bidder. The Ad Rank is Google’s Quality Score multiplied by the Maximum CPC. In the statistics above we’ve ranked the ads by their Ad Rank and we can see that Noddy has won this PPC auction and his ad will be in top position in the search engine results.
Noddy was prepared to pay Google up to a maximum of £0.55 per click but he only needs to pay 1p more than would be necessary to keep his Ad Rank above the next highest ranked bidder – £0.34. The calculation is:

The same logic is applied to each bidder in the list, Big Ears and PC Plod.
In the example above you can see that because Google is rewarding Noddy because his ad is relevant, he is actually paying much less per click than his competitors Big Ears and PC Plod.
Using this formula, if all other factors remained constant, Big Ears would have to pay a whopping £1.66 per click if he wanted to move up to a postion above Noddy.
As you can see from this example any PPC advertiser that does not understand the concept of Quality Score runs the risk of paying heavily for their ignorance.
